About the Treatment

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a collagen-induction therapy that uses a device fitted with fine, sterile needles to create thousands of microscopic punctures in the skin’s surface. These controlled micro-injuries trigger the skin’s natural repair process — producing new collagen and elastin that improves texture, tone, firmness, and the appearance of scars.

At Clifton Park Medical Aesthetics, we offer medical-grade microneedling in three formulations: standard microneedling with Plexr growth factor serum, microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma), and microneedling with exosomes — the most advanced option available, containing 5–10× more growth factors than PRP.

All microneedling treatments are physician-supervised. Sessions take 45–60 minutes and most patients experience 1–3 days of mild redness — comparable to a moderate sunburn — before results gradually emerge over 4–6 weeks.

Treatment Options

Three Levels of Microneedling

We offer three microneedling protocols at increasing levels of regenerative intensity, with your physician recommending the most suitable option based on your goals, budget, and skin condition. Microneedling with Plexr Serum is our entry-level treatment, using growth factor serum to enhance collagen stimulation, improve skin firmness, reduce fine lines, and support overall anti-aging results. Microneedling with PRP utilizes your own platelet-rich plasma, applied during treatment to amplify collagen production and improve acne scars, uneven texture, and natural skin rejuvenation. Microneedling with Exosomes is our most advanced option, delivering a high concentration of growth factors for faster, more dramatic improvements in anti-aging, severe acne scarring, and significant skin damage. We also offer specialized protocols such as Acne Scar Treatment, which targets ice pick, rolling, and boxcar scars with deeper needle penetration and regenerative serums to remodel scar tissue; Skin Texture & Pore Refinement, designed to improve large pores, rough texture, and uneven skin tone through a series of lighter treatments; and our Anti-Aging Protocol, which addresses fine lines, skin laxity, and dullness through a customized treatment series, often combined with Morpheus8 for enhanced deep tissue remodeling and surface rejuvenation.

The Process

What to Expect

Microneedling appointments at our clinic follow a consistent protocol designed for comfort, safety, and the best possible results from each session.

Consultation & Skin Assessment

Your physician evaluates your skin condition, identifies your primary concerns, and recommends the right microneedling protocol — standard, PRP, or exosome. A personalized series schedule and realistic outcome expectations are discussed.

Numbing (30–45 Min)

Topical numbing cream is applied 30–45 minutes before treatment. By the time needling begins, the skin is fully desensitized. Most patients feel vibration or mild pressure — not significant pain — during the procedure.

Microneedling (30–45 Min)

The medical-grade microneedling device is passed over the treatment area in multiple directions. For PRP or exosome treatments, the serum is applied during and immediately after needling, when the microchannels are open for maximum absorption.

Recovery & Results

Skin appears red and slightly flushed for 1–3 days — similar to a moderate sunburn. Mild peeling may occur over the following week. Results emerge gradually over 4–6 weeks as collagen production increases. Full series results are cumulative and build with each session.

Is It Right for You?

Good Candidates for Microneedling

Microneedling is one of the most broadly appropriate skin treatments available — effective across skin types and a wide range of concerns.

  • Adults with acne scars — ice pick, rolling, or boxcar — seeking meaningful improvement
  • Those with enlarged pores, uneven texture, or dull skin tone
  • For deeper skin tightening and fat remodeling — Morpheus8 RF adds radiofrequency energy for stronger results
  • Patients with fine lines, mild skin laxity, or loss of skin firmness
  • Patients wanting natural, gradual improvement without laser downtime
  • For maximum anti-aging or severe scarring — exosome treatment delivers significantly more growth factors than standard microneedling

Standard microneedling creates surface-level micro-injuries that stimulate collagen in the dermis. Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency (RF) energy delivered through the needles, penetrating much deeper into the tissue — remodeling collagen and fat at a level that standard microneedling cannot reach. Morpheus8 delivers more dramatic skin tightening; microneedling is better for surface texture, acne scars, and tone.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) uses growth factors derived from your own blood to amplify the healing response. Exosomes are cell-signaling particles that contain 5–10× more growth factors than PRP and trigger a stronger regenerative response. Exosome microneedling is the more advanced option and typically delivers faster, more dramatic results — particularly for anti-aging and severe scarring.

Most patients complete 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart for optimal results. Mild concerns like skin tone and maintenance may require fewer sessions; deeper acne scarring typically benefits from the full series. Results continue to improve between sessions and build cumulatively.

Yes. Microneedling is one of the safest collagen-induction treatments for all skin tones, including darker complexions, because it does not use heat or light energy that can cause hyperpigmentation. It is a preferred treatment for patients of color who want to address acne scars without the risks associated with certain laser therapies.

Most patients are red for 1–3 days, similar in appearance to a moderate sunburn. By day 3–4 the redness has typically subsided significantly. Mild peeling or dryness may follow in the days after. Makeup can generally be applied 24–48 hours post-treatment.

All microneedling treatments at Clifton Park Medical Aesthetics are physician-supervised. Treatment depth, speed, and serum selection are customized by our medical team for your specific skin type and concern — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
